Prysmian to exhibit full range of cable systems for power transmission
infrastructures at MEE 2011
The range on display will include state-of-the-art underground and submarine cable systems to
support the development of smarter and greener power grids
Prysmian is to showcase its latest technological innovations, specifically
designed to support the development of smarter and greener power grids,
at MEE 2011, the electrical industry’s largest tradeshow in the Middle East,
taking place in Dubai from February 8th to 10th, 2011.
Prysmian’s product portfolio at MEE 2011 will focus on the full range of state-of-the-art
power cables including HV and EHV underground and submarine cable systems for applications
such as interconnections between power grids, links between natural or artificial islands and the
mainland, and connections to, or between, offshore oil production and wind power generation
facilities. Prysmian will also be presenting a wide range of cables and systems for the Oil, Gas
and Petrochemical industry – complex and integrated systems for power transmission and
distribution, control and instrumentation for industrial applications -
including innovative specialties such as Drylam™ and Airguard™ Cable System, cable
solutions with enhanced features and reduced environmental impact, specifically designed for
critical environments. To complete the available portfolio FP® fire resistant cables, Umbilicals
and power distribution cable solutions will also be on display.
MEE 2011 represents an excellent opportunity to reinforce Prysmian’s strong presence in the
Middle East, where the Company is already carrying out several strategic power cable
projects. The Middle East is a key area for Prysmian’s expansion strategy, especially in the high
value-added markets, where special products and services are required, including EHV underground
and submarine cable systems, cables for the Oil & Gas industry and fire resistant cables for
the construction industry.
In the Middle East,
Prysmian has offices and facilities in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (UAE), Doha (Qatar) and
Kuwait. The Group has carried out and completed several strategic power cable projects in
this region, particularly in the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain. These include the first-ever submarine
power transmission link serving Doha and the GCC Saudi-Bahrain submarine interconnection.
The Group is currently involved in high-profile projects for the development of power
infrastructures in the region, such as the recently awarded 400 kV power transmission
system for TRANSCO to connect the Bahia and Saadiyat grid stations in Abu Dhabi and the new 400 kV
underground cable system for Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation. In the Oil, Gas and
Petrochemical industry ongoing prestigious projects, such as the Livorno FPSO (Dubai Dry Docks),
the EMAL Aluminium Smelter and the Borouge Polyolefines Plant in Abu Dhabi, the QAFCO Fertilizer in
Qatar (the largest in the world) and the LNG 2 in Yemen, all rely on Prysmian cable systems.
These achievements again demonstrate Prysmian’s leading position and the validity of the
Group’s know-how and technologies as well as its commitment to supporting the development of
smarter and greener power grids worldwide. Among other projects in which Prysmian has
recently been involved are some of the largest, most strategic and technologically advanced in the
world, such as the France – Spain HVDC underground interconnection for INELFE and the recently
awarded contracts for the HVDC connection of offshore wind farms in the North Sea to the German
mainland (BorWin2, HelWin1 and Sylwin1).
