The Group will be present with its comprehensive range of products and services
in Stockholm, September 14 to 16 (booth b1131).
Prysmian, worldwide leading Group in the energy and telecommunications cable
industry, will present its latest range of products and services for the offshore wind power
industry at EOW 2009, the European Offshore Wind Exhibition and Conference that will take place in
Stockholm (Sweden)
from September 14 to 16.
EOW is one of the leading offshore wind exhibitions and conferences in Europe. This bi-annual
event – which this year has doubled in size (4,000 m2 of stand space) in comparison with the
previous edition in 2007 – is a special opportunity to engage in high level political debates,
technical discussions, business and networking. Exhibition visitors will be able to meet over 260
of the key players in the worldwide offshore wind power industry: manufacturers, developers,
engineering and construction companies, power generators and utilities from Europe, North America
and Asia.
At EOW 2009 Prysmian will display its full range of products and services for the offshore
wind power industry, including submarine cable systems to connect the windmills among them and to
ensure the connection with the power supply network, both AC and DC with high power transmission
capacity (100-200 MW and above) and Prysmian’s TECWIND cabling solutions, a complete family of
products, which include Medium and Low Voltage turbine cables specifically designed to meet the
unique conditions of the individual plant and installation area.
Several indicators suggest a very active phase for the offshore wind industry in Europe: just
to mention a few, 1,471 MW were installed by the end of 2008 in EU waters (EWEA source) and the
capital expenditure forecast for the development of new off shore wind farm projects in Europe
amounts to over 15 billion dollars in the 2008-2012 period (Source: Douglas Westwood 2007), with
governments continuously stimulating investments. In line with these market drivers, during the
past few years Prysmian has been dedicating a strong commitment to this strategic and growing
sector.
The Group is involved in several offshore wind park development projects such as Greater
Gabbard (UK), which is currently the world’s largest offshore wind farm in construction; Thanet,
off the coast of Kent (UK); Alpha Ventus in Germany and Gunfleet Sands in the UK. More recently,
Prysmian has secured a €27 million project to manufacture and supply a submarine power cable system
for the Ormonde offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.
Furthermore, with the purpose of consolidating its market leader position, in 2008 Prysmian
made important investments to increase its production capacity to meet the growing demand for
cables coming from the offshore wind power sector.
Prysmian’s experts and managers will be available and pleased to meet customers and press at
EOW 2009 (booth B1131) to share latest announcements and product releases relevant to the
offshore wind power industry throughout the exhibition hours and most noticeably during the
in-stand cocktail reception that will take place on September 15, 17: pm.
