Energy Cables & Systems

The energy division has three specialist business areas: utilities, trade & installer and industrial.

Utilities

This division designs, produces and installs High and Extra-High voltage underground and submarine power transmission cables and systems for a wide range of applications within the utilities sector. Our underground power transmission business focuses on power plant sites and primary distribution networks while our turnkey submarine power transmission systems include installations at dazzling depths. With our own high-tech cable-laying vessel 'Giulio Verne', we have one of the few ships in the industry with the advanced technological features capable of installing submarine power cable systems at depths of up to 2,000 meters in any kind of environmental conditions.

Our manufacturing capabilities are unmatched, with main High Voltage plants covering three continents. On the submarine side, besides the 'Giulio Verne' we have major plants in Italy, Norway and Finland.

Projects the Group have worked on include the Basslink in Australia, the Neptune and Trans-Bay projects in the USA, the Spain-to-Majorca SA.PE.I and Sicily-Calabria projects in Europe and the Doha Bay and GCCIA projects in the Middle East. We have also helped cities across the world - New York, Hong Kong, London - develop their high voltage power grids and US states develop EGS-plants (Enhanced Geotherman System) to supply clean carbon-neutral electrical power.

We additionally produce network components such as joints and terminations for Extra-High, High, Medium and Low Voltage cables suitable for industrial, building or infrastructure applications and for power transmission and distribution.

Trade & Installer

In the field of T&I, we produce medium voltage cables and systems to connect industrial and residential buildings to the primary distribution networks. We also supply a complete range of rigid and flexible low voltage cables and systems for power distribution and the wiring of buildings. For applications where safety is paramount, we specialise in cables with special properties such as fire resistance and low smoke and halogen emission.

Our fire-resistant cables are found at the heart of many state-of-the-art developments, like the Wimbledon tennis stadium, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai - the world's tallest building, and Masdar City in the Arab Emirates - the world's first carbon-neutral city. When it comes to fire safety underground, we have the ultimate range of fire performance cables for tunnels. Not surprisingly our modular cable system has been installed in the London Underground and other major tunnels in the world.

Industrial

For industrial applications, we specialise in integrated cabling solutions, highly customised to our worldwide customer base. We serve a broad range of industries including oil & gas, renewable energies, SURF (Subsea umbilical, Riser and Flowline), automotive, elevator, specialties and OEM.

In the Oil & Gas industries our range covers both research and refining and exploration and production. Our total range of SURF products and services for the petro chemicals industry puts our cables and systems at the heart of the oil and gas industry's major international developments - from Brazil to the Gulf of Mexico, from the Caspian Sea to the Arabian Gulf, and from the North Sea to South-East Asia.

In renewable energy we are a world leader in cables for offshore wind farms, supplying cables for wind turbine operation, inter-array cables to link turbines and export cables for mainland links. Major projects include Walney, Ormonde, Greater Gabbard, Thanet and Gunfleet Sands in the UK, and Germany's Alpha Ventus and Baltic-2.

In automotive, we have cabled the world's biggest ships and the world's fastest trains. For seaports, our cables are used for cranes transporting large cargo containers, including the port of Singapore, the world's busiest in terms of shipping tonnage.

Meeting the global demand for high-performing, durable and safe elevator cable and components, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of products for the elevator industry.
