Tube Connectivity
Prysmian offers a full complimentary range of products for tube connectivity
within the Sirocco system. Solutions are available for the active management of fibres within all
parts of the network - the central office, external environment or customer premises.
The management and distribution of tubes is an important part of any blown fibre system.
Correct management of the tube ensures that installation of fibre units is completed quickly and
without problems. Using specifically designed Prysmian products for blown fibre systems will also
ensure that installation distances are maximised whilst maintaining safety and limiting cost. As an
example all of our external environment products are fitted with pressure release valves for safety
in case of accidental pressurisation of closures during installation.
Our expanding range of solutions gives our customers the ability to select products for
different applications and contexts. When installing a blown fibre network customers should select
quality products that are proven for specific applications and this gives peace of mind that when
fibres come to be installed the tube / connectivity network is of the highest integrity and
standard.

19” Blown Tube Patch Shelf
The 19” Blown Tube Patch Shelf provides a solution for connecting up to 48
blown fibre tubes of 5mm in diameter. The shelf is 3U in height and can be mounted into a 19” rack
or street-side cabinet. The connectors inside the shelf are gas block connectors which means the
shelf is ideal for connecting external tubes to internal tubes. The unit is supplied with the 48
gas block connectors mounted into the steelwork and the fixings required to install it into a rack
or street-side cabinet.

FTTH Streetside Cabinet
The FTTH Streetside Cabinet is a distribution/drop off access point within a
blown fibre network. The cabinet allows a blown fibre cable of up to 24 tubes to be connected and
distributed to up to 24 single tube blown cables. The cabinet is lockable to prevent unwanted
access.

Tube Distribution Closure (TDC) MK II
The Sirocco Tube Distribution Closure (TDC) MK II is a direct bury inline
sealed closure (IP 68 Rated) designed for intercepting a blown fibre tube cable / duct assembly to
a allow multiple spur-off's to smaller blown fibre tube cables or ducts. The TDC MK II can be
installed at the time of blown fibre tube cable installation (day one) or fitted over an already
installed cable as a retro fit allowing ultimate flexibility for your blown fibre/duct network. The
closure offers protection to the accessed tubes and connectors and contains an integral pressure
relief valve to prevent accidental over-pressurisation. The product is supplied with a base, cover
complete with toggle clips for closing and a pressure relief valve. Rubber seals to seal the
in-line cables/ducts are sold separately to suit the required diameter of the cable. Cable glands
to distribute the drop cables are supplied separately as required.

Blown Fibre Tube Cable Connectivity
This is a guide to the selection of cable connectivity used in the Sirocco
system. These items are used for blown fibre tubeconnectivity only and not for fibre connectivity.
Items 1 –4 are used to join or distribute from blown fibre tube cables with 7 tubes or more (when
utilisng any of the Direct Buried range of tube constructions) and for 12 tubes or more when
utilisng the Direct Install range (cable diameter dependent). Item 5 would be used to accommodate
up to a 7 tube cable with up to 4 tube cable for the drop. These connectivity products can be
introduced as part of the original network build, or can be fitted at a later date as required. The
units are intended to protect the area of the tube-to-tube connection and allow access to the tubes
to establish the initial link and any additional future links or revised routing i.e. they are
re-enterable.

DB1 Connection Kit
The DB1 Connection Kit is used to connect two DB1 Blown Tube cables together.
The cables are connected using a standard 5-5mm tube connector. A length of protective conduit is
then used to protect the joint and the conduit is sealed to the cable sheath using two pieces of
low temperature heat shrink

Blown Fibre Gas Seal Unit
The Blown Fibre Gas Seal Unit (BFGSU) is typically used in business premises
or entry to apartment blocks. This is a wall mounted unit that is positioned internally at the
cable entry point. Incoming external blown tube cables are connected to internal blown tube cables
using gas sealing connectors. These connectors are used to seal both populated (with blown fibre
bundle) and unpopulated blown tubing. The BFGSU is used for internally fed cable or with an OAsys
CLI Unit for cables entering through the fabric of the wall.

Single Tube Gas Block Housing
The Single Tube Gas Block Housing is a wall mounted unit that is positioned
internally at the cable entry point. An incoming external blown tube cable is connected to an
internal blown tube cable using a gas sealing connector. The connector is used to seal both
populated (with blown fibre bundle) and unpopulated blown tubing to prevent the ingress of gas into
the building. The BFGSU is used for internally fed cable or with an OAsys CLI Unit for a cable
entering through the fabric of the wall.

Internal TDU
The Internal Tube Distribution Units (TDU’s) are used as a 3 or 4 way
distribution point for tube management for vertical / horizontal connections of blown fibre tube
cables. The TDU’s allow the interception of a Blown Fibre Cable to be connected to spur off cables
for distribution within the internal environment.

The Riser Box is designed for use within apartment blocks and mid/high rise
office blocks. The unit houses a single integral splice tray, and allows fibres from an in-line or
butt Blown Fibre tube cable to be spliced up to 12 customer drop cables. In cases where Blown Fibre
tube cables are to be used for the customer drops, bulkhead tube connectors can be fitted to the
unit.
