Hon. Bishop visits Dee Why plant

On May 9^thBronwyn Bishop, Shadow Minister for Seniors and Shadow Special Minister of State, visited Prysmian’s optical fibre manufacturing plant in the suburb of Dee Why, Sydney Australia. Mrs Bishop has been the sitting member for Mackellar since 1994. The electorate encompasses some 230sq km on the northern beaches of Sydney, and is home to around 100,000 constituents.

During the visit Mrs Bishop showed great interest in the technical features of fibre optic cables and asked many questions of her hosts Prysmian CEO Australia & NZ, Llyr Roberts and Plant Director – Dee Why, Sam Finocchiaro.
Mr Roberts highlighted the size of the Australian operation explaining how the recent $11million investment in equipment and building infrastructure made the Dee Why site the largest ribbon fibre manufacturer in the Southern Hemisphere and a major employer in the Northern Beaches area. Mr Roberts also invited Mrs Bishop to discuss Liberal Parties policies on the National Broadband Network, Anti-Dumping, Carbon Tax and incentives for Australian manufacturers. At the completion of the tour Mrs Bishop met and talked with Dee Why site staff, many of whom are her local constituents, whilst they were attending a daily Quality meeting.

The visit by the Honourable Member for Mackellar was greatly appreciated by the senior management of Prysmain and staff of the Dee Why plant.
