Prysmian China Volunteers from Tianjin plant took part last August in a one-day activity to help Tianjin Sun Village, a children’s welfare home.

Located in Xianhe Village, Beichen District, the home is dedicated to rescuing unattended children of Chinese convicts. There are currently 24 residents, the youngest of whom is just a few months old and the oldest 24 years old. Ms. Wang, the director, takes care of all the children, who call her “mum”. They rely on farming for a living and their living conditions are tough.

The work of Prysmian Group’s volunteers included farming, repairing the roads and feeding. In the words of one of the volunteers: “We hope to help these children by lightening their workload through our efforts. The men repaired the roads, while the women thinned out seedlings and weeded. Despite many blisters, the volunteers remained enthusiastic given the purpose of the work being done. Every volunteer said they would come there again with friends or family to help these children. Prysmian Tianjin has also donated 1400m 16mm2 and 970m 4mm2 cables to improve the lighting system in Tianjin Sun Village.”

Prysmian Tianjin Volunteers also are involved in saving stray animals that come every day to the Prysmian Tianjin plant. This has two different purposes: to eliminate safety risks for the people who work in the plant, and to reduce the number and treat stray animals, by adopting them or supplying food. Prysmian Tianjin plant has adopted one dog and two cats as company pets to prevent rats and assist the guards who take good care of them.
