Prysmian Group is attending the World Elevator & Escalator Expo 2016, from 10-13 May (booth #7266) in Shanghai, China. Prysmian’s Elevator Business Unit showcases its comprehensive product portfolio specifically designed for the elevator industry, which includes a wide range of electronic, electrical, and mechanical solutions that enhance elevator performance and innovation for next generation networks.

According to Sterrett Lloyd, Elevators Business Director, “The World Elevator & Escalator Expo comes at a favourable time for the Group, which can benefit from the huge market and production capabilities offered by China. Prompted by the open policy and strong demand, China’s elevator industry has made great changes with ever-growing industrial scale and rapid upgrade of technical capabilities over the last 20 years. The Chinese elevator industry has become an indispensable part of the world’s elevator industry. Total production of elevators and escalators in China reached 633 thousand units in 2015 — 66 thousand of which were exported to 145 countries and regions — accounting for around 70% of the world’s total new installations. At the same time, components, installation and maintenance are developing rapidly, forming a complete industrial supply chain that supports the fast development of the industry. Although Chinese per-capita installations exceeded the world’s average in all 2015 data, China is still far behind in the per-capita number of installations compared to developed countries. The Chinese elevator market shows plenty of potential for further growth.”

Lloyd added: “Recently, Prysmian Group has closed an important gap in its product portfolio with its flat travelling cables for the mid- and high-rise markets in Suzhou, China. Thanks to the investments by Prysmian Group, the Suzhou cable plant set up a Competence Centre for this strategic customer market segment. Its competences include not only R&D, design and production of high-end, flat travelling cables for the tallest buildings on the planet, but also a harnessing department where plug & play solutions are assembled and tested prior to delivery to customers. Operational capabilities are completed by a testing lab where flex cycles and travelling behaviours are simulated to determine product life-cycle expectations, thus allowing customers to rely on Prysmian Group for their most prestigious projects.”

In addition, Prysmian Group has negotiated distribution agreements with global industry peers for complementary products such as high-end, load weighing and rope tensioning devices manufactured by Micelect, and the local wire assembly of elevator car top and shaft maintenance boxes by the Italy-based world leader Giovenzana.

“All these recent achievements are very significant for the long-term development of Prysmian Group as they increase our worldwide footprint and strengthen our position as one of the world’s leading suppliers in the elevator industry,” concluded Lloyd.
