Inspiring the next generation - Prysmian team shares career pathways with pupils at Dunbar Grammar School

Prysmian and supply chain colleagues recently took part in a highly successful visit to Dunbar Grammar School in East Lothian. At the careers evening, the team spoke with pupils about the range of employment opportunities and career pathways available in the energy industry. The team also discussed the Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project which is being built locally.

Three colleagues from Prysmian were joined by a representative of subcontractor Glenturas for the two-hour careers evening, which was organised by DYW East Lothian. 

The event granted over 592 people - students between the ages of 11 and 18, plus their parents/carers - the opportunity to hear from a range of businesses and employers about career opportunities and pathways.

The team shared valuable insight into working for a company such as Prysmian, and the apprenticeship programme on offer. It was also an opportunity to discuss, with pupils and parent alike, key information about the energy industry such salary ranges, offshore and onshore working patterns, and the different career pathways available.

Students and parents were encouraged to ask questions which benefitted their understanding – and, with Dunbar Grammar located in close proximity to EGL1, the event also provided a fantastic opportunity to discuss the project more broadly, and the range of benefits it will bring to local communities and the nation as a whole.

The event was a great success; with the team especially delighted to hear from one parent, who shared that her son was “starstruck and amazed” by the work done by Prysmian on the EGL1 project.

EGL1 is a vital national infrastructure project that will see the construction of a new high-voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical cable link between the Torness area in East Lothian, Scotland, and the Hawthorn Pit area in County Durham, England. Developed by National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Energy Networks (SPEN), the link will play a crucial role in delivering clean energy to homes and businesses across the UK by increasing the nation’s capacity to transport renewable power across the country.
