Prysmian Group, the world’s leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, continues activities of protection of its technologies and investments in R&D. Prysmian S.P.A., together with its subsidiary in the UK Prysmian Cables & Systems Limited, today announced to have commenced proceedings for patent infringement in the UK High Court against STERLITE TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED (“Sterlite”). Prysmian claims that Sterlite’s Micro-LITE Multitube Single Jacket optical fibre cable products infringe the UK designations of Prysmian’s European Patents EP (UK) 2,390,700B1 and EP (UK) 1,668,392B1 (“the Patents”) for fibre optic cables.

“Protecting our products with patents and trademarks is a key part of our Group’s activities, in line with our strategy of growth in high-tech market segments and in support for the significant investments made in recent years”, stated Philippe Vanhille, EVP Telecom Business at Prysmian Group. “These legal initiatives therefore are a necessary part of our broader action plan to safeguard the efforts made in research and development”.

The European Patent EP ‘392 relates to telecommunication optical cables, and in particular to a telecommunication optical cable with a highly reduced diameter. The European Patent EP ‘700 relates to optical fibre telecommunications cables, particularly bundled cable units containing optical fibres.
