Prysmian Group to present innovative, Sustainable and cost-effective solutions for the wind power industry at WindEnergy Hamburg 2022
Focus on integrated product range and advanced technologies to support sustainable electrification projects and the Energy TransitionNew 525 kV HVDC extruded submarine cable system and dynamic cables for floating applications
Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, will present its integrated state-of-the-art range of products and services for the onshore and offshore wind power industry at the 2022 edition of WindEnergy Hamburg, the key industry event that will take place from September 27 to 30 in Germany (Hamburg Messe und Congress, Hall B6, Booth 553).
Growing demand for renewable power, advances in turbine generation capacity, grid hardening, and asset efficiency are key industry drivers and cables are the main enablers to harness the true potential of wind power. To meet European targets of >130 GW of offshore wind energy to be generated by 2030, Prysmian Group is investing heavily in the development of innovative, sustainable and cost-effective cable solutions for wind applications to support the energy transition to smarter and greener power grids.
At WindEnergy Hamburg 2022 the Group will present advanced cable technologies for the whole renewable power sector. The product portfolio comprises all turbine and grid connection applications to support sustainable electrification projects and the energy transition, both onshore and offshore, including: Windflex, the first totally lead-free ultra-flexible loop cables up to 66 kV, and Feltoflex, ready-to-plug cable solutions up to 155 kV.
Among the most noticeable cable solutions the Group will showcase are High Voltage dynamic cables for submarine applications that allow to build offshore wind farms in areas that today are not accessible due to high water depth, such as in the case of France’s first floating offshore wind farm, Provence Grand Large. Prysmian is also developing a new family of 132 kV HVAC inter-array cables which will lead to reduction of installed cable lengths - due to the reduced number of strings - and reduced electrical losses in comparison to 66 kV.
World-class technical innovations on display will include the new 525 kV extruded submarine cable system for HVDC applications. This breakthrough innovation in cable technology will enable a massive increase of the maximum transmission capacity of bi-pole systems up to more than 2.5 GW, which is more than double the value achieved with 320 kV DC systems currently in service. Recently, Prysmian Group has also developed 275 kV HVAC three-core submarine cables, now available with conductor cross-sections up to 2000 mm2. These systems enable efficient and reliable power transmission over long distances. Compared to 220 kV, use of 275 kV voltage yields up to 20% more transmittable power and enables a significant savings per transmitted MW, if also cable installation costs are taken into account.
On display will also be PRY-CAM PRY-CAM’s breakthrough asset monitoring technology, designed to enable electrical systems management and preserve and protect high-value electrical assets thanks to in-depth, accurate, real-time data acquisition, storage and processing.
This exhibition comes at a very important time for the Group as Prysmian has been recently awarded two major contracts for a total €800 million for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of land and submarine cables for two offshore wind farm grid connection systems in Germany’s North Sea, namely DolWin4 & BorWin4. The Group objective is to consolidate its market leadership of approximately 35% market share, also leveraging on a solid order intake of over €3 billion (for Projects BU) year to date, reaching visibility of over €10 billion orders.
