In 2017, Prysmian co-foundedCorporate Hangar, a place to identify and launch promising start-up ideas. Corporate Hangar collects ideas from Prysmian’s employees, as well as customers and stakeholders, and then transforms them into structured business plans and pilot projects. Successful pilots are then launched through the Prysmian Innovation Accelerator (PRIA).
Prysmian has adopted an “open innovation” model whereby it teams up with partners to pursue specific projects with add-on features that go beyond the Group’s core cables business. Corporate Hangar is an accelerator partly-owned by Prysmian that has incubated 3 startups: Alesea, a virtual assistant for cable management; Kablee, a digital business development tool for cable makers that aims to bring data connectivity to rural areas and create a marketplace for scrap cables; and Cultifutura, and “urban farming” company that develops vertical farming solutions for offices. Prysmian Electronics, fully-owned by Prysmian, has developed has developed solutions for the monitoring and fault location of Extra High, High, Medium and Low Voltage cable systems.
