BI Journey: our new Business Intelligence is a key to accelerating innovation and digitalization

The Business Intelligence tools in Prysmian Group are the foundation of the Cognitive Enterprise. They support our Managers when they need answers to questions about “What and Why” something happens, all around the world.

With the migration from SAP BI / BEX Analyzer to SAP BW/4HANA / Analysis for Office (AFO), we are setting the path for the future of Prysmian Group as a Data-Driven organization.

The BI ecosystem is recognized as a single point-of-truth for our data connected with our SAP 1C. Now it is much “faster” than before because we have moved from a traditional “on-disk” architecture to a new “in-memory” solution, in line with the Innovation / Integration IT Strategy.

The Transformation Journey started in July 2018:

February 2019 - BI Short Term – Integration First: Creation of integrated reports with Prysmian and General Cable data for a subset of information.

November 2019 – BW/4 – Innovation Soon: New BW solution available for North America and HQ reporting data with better performance (up to 20x faster) and improved user experience. This phase was executed jointly with SAP Services team Italia.

March 2020 - AFO Big Bang: New reporting tool extended worldwide in Prysmian Group. A successful training process was executed during the pandemic emergency to aproximatively 1000 people. For the first time, we experimented training with the addition of home “sounds”. Children and pets we love you!

September 2020 – BW/4 End State: Direct integration of SAP 1C with SAP BW/4HANA, with more than 885 million records moved from the old SAP BW to the new SAP BW/4HANA. Now all the data is loaded from the ERP systems in less than one hour, making the data available to the business users in one third of the time.
