One year of Leonardo Da Vinci

One year of Leonardo Da Vinci

While the record-breaking vessel is getting ready to set sail let’s review the 2020 milestones of this amazing journey

We left the Leonardo Da Vinci at Vard’s shipyard in Brattvåg, Norway, where it finally got after being towed from Tulcea, Romania.

In Norway, despite the ongoing health emergency, the vessel is undergoing the last outfitting phases, with the installation of main equipment strictly “made in Prysmian”:

  • 2 rotating platforms of 7,000 and 10,000 tons to ensure the highest carousel capacity in the market
  • 2 stern sheaves
  • 3 pickup arms
  • 100 tons Capstan
  • Tensioners
  • Helideck
  • Interior spaces: gym, auditorium, game room, dayroom, officers lounge.

Prysmian already installed the 7,000 tons turntable as well as the helideck.

Engines, already installed, will be  effectively switched on at the beginning of 2021 and the Leonardo Da Vinci will be then finally ready for sea trials.

Once ready, the vessel will be a key enabler of a carbon-neutral world by 2050 and will reinforce Prysmian’s approach as a one-stop-shop solution provider, able to offer engineering, manufacturing, installation and full monitoring and diagnostic services, strengthening its leadership in the interconnection and offshore wind farm markets.

Leonardo da Vinci: a vessel true to its name

The name of the vessel, Leonardo Da Vinci, is a tribute to the famous Italian genius, linked to engineering, science, innovation, excellence and Italy, such as Prysmian’s roots. The vessel is proving to be true to its name: innovation, sustainability and features that any cable laying vessel has never had.
