Strategically closer to the UK submarine cable market and the offshore wind sector, the Group has set up a dedicated marine base in the Port of Middlesbrough to better serve the major offshore wind assets on site.

Besides lending the Group a proximity advantage in dealing with clients such as Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Offshore Wind Farm developers, this new facility further demonstrates Prysmian commitment in investing in the UK submarine cable industry, employing local resources and ensuring clients a dedicated and reactive support for marine operations.

The building unit provides cable and accessory storage, serving as an operational base for mobilisation or demobilisation of cable laying vessels, subsea equipment maintenance, survey management, and storage of installation tools and equipment. Plus, it also provides cable maintenance and repair services for offshore wind farms and submarine interconnector cables.

A permanent engineering & offshore installation team is available on site, ready to be mobilised for offshore operations for the most challenging projects. As of today, from this location Prysmian has mobilised more than 100 vessels to serve its own Clients all around the world.

The facilities can accommodate approx. 40 people to support the asset management and maintenance activities, logistics, cables and accessories storage and vessel mobilisation, counting also on a strong local supply chain to support the business.

With 4 UK-based factories, the Group reported over €10 billion sales turnover in 2020 and has a solid track record in the development of submarine cable milestone projects in Northern Europe, such as: the IFA2 interconnector between France and the UK; the NSL between Norway and the UK, the Viking Link between Denmark and the UK, and also the most iconic offshore wind farms like Hornsea 2, Kincardine and NnG.
