Global Wireless Solutions research: “inadequate” internet speeds for one-third of UK

The UK regulator Ofcom defines ‘decent’ broadband as a minimum of 10Mb/s download and 1Mb/s upload rate. Relatively speaking, metropolitan areas have decent connectivity, but there a significant digital divide exists in the UK. This is especially challenging at the current time, when many people are working and teaching children in their homes.

According to the study, 37% of participants admit that connectivity issues during voice and video calls results in their judging colleagues’ competence. Over half (52%) stated they felt isolated during the lockdown when they couldn’t communicate with others effectively.

“Having a sufficient internet connection is essential for being able to work and live,” says Paul Carter, CEO of Global Wireless Solutions. “Without reasonable throughputs, consumers risk feeling disconnected, frustrated, and anxious. “The fact that a third of homes in the UK don’t have sufficient speeds to perform routine tasks is disappointing. It’s a real eye-opener, particularly at a time when everyone is at home and relying on their networks more than ever.”
