The new cable boasts 864 fibres in a diameter of 11.0mm, providing a fibre density of 9.1 fibres per mm2, and is installable into a 13mm duct – with this innovation, Prysman Group has broken its own record. Sirocco HD cables continue to provide the smallest diameters and the highest fibre densities for microduct cables, making it possible to introduce much-needed increased fibre counts into standard microducts.
The cables, utilizing Prysmian’s BendBright-A2 200µ single-mode (ITU-T G.657.A2) bend insensitive fibre, providing a truly future-proof solution that is ideal for supporting FTTx / 5G rollouts. Prysmian PicoTube technology makes cables up to 20% smaller than previous versions. As a result, it becomes possible to install more fibres into congested duct space and enable the use of smaller ducts for new installations, resulting in lower installation costs and the use of less raw materials. In turn, this benefits for both the total cost of network deployment and the environmental footprint. The cables are now available in fibre counts from 96 to 864 and conform to international standards for optical and mechanical performance.
