The launch comes at a time when the number of reported data security breaches has increased by 42%. One of the reasons for introducing the news measures appears to be the UAE’s strong focus on artificial intelligence, big data and Smart Cities. “Millions of devices and platforms are connected, producing massive amounts of data, many of which will be at risk of piracy or privacy violation," says Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA director-general.
The UAE National Cybersecurity Strategy is preparing to roll out 60 initiatives across five focus areas.
The strategy was developed following consultation with more than 50 global reports and examination of the cybersecurity systems of 10 leading countries. The UAE is also planning to develop the capabilities of more than 40,000 professionals by encouraging students to pursue a career in cybersecurity. Furthermore, cybersecurity excellence will be rewarded through a dedicated national awards programme.
The 2019 FTTH Council global ranking lists the UAE as the global number one in Fibre to the Home (FTTH) penetration for a third year in a row. According to the Council’s research, 94.3% of the country’s population has access to FTTH, surpassing Singapore (90.3%), South Korea (81.6%), Hong Kong (75.6%) and Japan (69.1%).
