categories: Corporate

Milan, Italy   -   02/10/2025 - 03:38 PM

During the second day of the Italian Energy Summit 2025, Raul Gil, EVP Transmission at Prysmian, spoke about security, innovative technologies, and the skills needed to tackle the energy transition.

The annual event, organized by Il Sole 24 Ore, serves as a platform to discuss Italy’s challenges and opportunities within the global energy landscape.

“Damage to submarine cables, when caused with malicious intent, is often the result of low-tech tools, such as anchors. To overcome these risks, we must always aim to use advanced technologies, like cutting-edge vessels, cable monitoring sensors, and high-tech installation capabilities and burial tool.”

“Italy is at the heart of the interconnection between north and south, east and west, and therefore holds a strategic position. Prysmian is the global leader in the submarine cables space — an Italian excellence that also boasts a major R&D center in Palermo, which has delivered to the market submarine cables with the optical fiber interated. Optical fiber helps identify the origin of the problem in real time. Prysmian is the only player with a vessel fully dedicated to inspection, maintenance and repair, with specialized people, the jointers, ready to act quickly.”

“The energy transition cannot happen without transmission. We are a technological leader, which is why innovation and engineering in projects are necessary to protect our assets — strategic both for Italy and Europe.”
