Sustainable Innovation

Sustainable product, application and process innovation

At Prysmian, innovation and sustainability are fully integrated. Being an enabler of the energy and digital transition means developing solutions, materials and processes capable of delivering tangible environmental and social benefits, creating value for society as a whole.

The Group invested €160.5 million in research and development in 2025, continuing our established long-term commitment. The global network of 30 R&D centers leads our innovation strategy, positioning Prysmian as a key player in the value chain driving the development of renewable energy, smart grids and high-speed communications.

Design For Sustainability (D4S)

Sustainability has become increasingly central to R&D activities through the "Design For Sustainability" (D4S) program, launched in 2022. The program has transformed the approach to product development, introducing structured criteria – such as E Path – to assess the strategic value of solutions in environmental and social terms from the very beginning of the design process. Since 2022, the Group publishes periodic reports on initiatives taking place at regional level. 2025 saw a 6% increase in sustainability initiatives compared with 2024, with a particular focus on:

  • reducing or removing substances of concern;
  • developing products to enable the energy transition;
  • reducing power cable transmission losses.
